Week 6 reflection

After starting HTML this week i'm very excited to get more into it and use it more. I've always been interested in coding and building webpages and i think that with the brackets program it makes it easy and fun to do. There's so many different things you can use coding for like art and business and i can't wait to dive in and explore what it can do further than just the basics.

.GIFs

GIF response

The .gif has become a widely used medium all across the internet. I personally think that they are a great way to express different messages and can be used as various types of art. One of the ways i see gifs being used most often is satirically and as a way to express an emotion to one another through the internet. These moving pictures are being used as a form of communication, they also provide a format for a different kind of art, which can range from simply a moving picture to something off the wall and funny.

Formal Project Finished

the Chimera project was a lot of fun to create and work with, i really enjoyed the creative process for each of the different pieces i created. It was also nice to relearn some aspects of photoshop and to get the opportunity to become more familiar with the program again.

For my first one a wanted to create some sort of villianous beast in a dark area so i decided on a woman with bat wings and a glowing red aura surrounding her. This one was a good way for me to get into the creative process and relearn some basics of photoshop that i had forgotten since my last digital class.
For this one i had a nice time figuring out how to incorporate the lava rock into the picture and placing it. I worked with the liquify tool and the warp tool in order to have it sit on his face the way i wanted, and it was nice to get to play around with those tools as well.

For my last one i wanted to mix a warrior with a wild cat to create a sort of mythical amazonian type creature. I really enjoyed creating all of these and getting to know photoshop better and playing around with the creative process of combining the different elements of the pictures.

Photomontage Reflection

For my photo-montages i got the idea of creating different characters such as hero's and villain's and merging them with different part of animals and their environments to display a type of emotion and how they are supposed to come across to the viewer.

Chimeras, hybrids and monsters, oh my!

The first thing i thought of when i read the assignment was some sort of gargoyle, human, bird hybrid. whenever i see something like this my mind goes to human body with wings. i also have some other less developed ideas i would like to explore.

New Media and Traditional Art
There are many different types of art, all of which hold parallels to each other. New media may seem like it holds no parallels to traditional art, and although they can be very different by definition. it in fact does. New media art does hold some parallel to traditional but it is in fact also very different.
Much of new media art is involved, in the manner that it actively includes its viewers and is interactive. New media art covers a wide range of things, from video and film, to games, and various forms of sculpture. A major aspect of new media art is getting its viewers involved and finding a way to incorporate them and be an active part of the piece. New media art also differs from traditional in that it focuses on culture and the world. Most new media art is used to bring specific issues to the forefront and get the audience thinking and make a point. Artists use new media art as a way to make a statement. New media also frequently mixes multiple media’s together to create something unique and new.
Even though new media uses a lot of technology it does include some traditional art, it is still possible to create and relate the techniques and methods used in creating some new media art back to the traditional. Instead of using tools in your hand and on a canvas or working with clay and your hands the work would be done digitally in a program but the intention and outcome may still be similar if not the same.
